As winter’s chill blankets Chippewa Valley, residents in Chippewa Falls are coming together to help each other stay warm.

Local native Terri Betts has dedicated over 400 hours crocheting 60 scarves, tying them throughout the downtown for anyone in need.

Each handmade scarf displays a heartfelt tag: “I’m not lost. If you need a scarf, take me and keep warm.”

Inspired by gratitude for her community, Betts is committed to continuing her project, calling it a way to give back using her creative talents.

Both Betts and supporters like Teri Ouimette of Chippewa Falls Main Street highlight the small town’s close bonds and mutual care.

Locals can contribute through the Chippewa Falls Public Library Crochet Club, and the upcoming Bridge to Wonderland Parade will showcase this spirit of generosity.

Betts’ scarves offer more than warmth; they symbolize the deep connection and kindness that make Chippewa Falls unique.

The Chippewa Valley Cooperative Hospital has reopened a critical lifeline with its new Cancer Center, now welcoming patients in the transformed space of the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls.

This center fills a major gap after Hospital Sisters Health Systems closed in March 2024, leaving hundreds without local cancer care and forcing many to travel far for treatment.

The Cancer Center began patient intake in mid-October and launched medical oncology services by early November, restoring essential care access across the region.

Comprehensive offerings include infusion therapy, an on-site specialty pharmacy, advanced laboratory services, and dedicated support programs for patients.

Extensive renovations created modern infusion bays and procedure rooms, fostering an environment of healing and comfort.

Plans for radiation therapy and full inpatient services, including emergency and surgical care, are underway, with a full launch expected by summer 2026.

Once complete, the hospital will employ over 300 staff, reaffirming its strong commitment to community health and local access to care.
