Chippewa Area History Center Continues Beloved Legacy Lights Ceremony |
The Chippewa Area History Center is honored to continue the cherished tradition of the Legacy Lights ceremony, a heartfelt event that brings the community together to honor loved ones during the holiday season.
Originally known as the Love Lights program at St. Joseph's Hospital, this tradition began in 1988 and spanned 36 years until the hospital's closure in April 2024. The inaugural ceremony featured a Christmas prayer and caroling by the Chi-Hi Madrigal Singers, with nearly 500 lights dedicated in memory and honor of individuals.
In 2024, the Chippewa Area History Center embraced the opportunity to preserve this meaningful event, renaming it Legacy Lights. The community's response was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the continuation of the tradition.
The 2025 Legacy Lights ceremony was scheduled for Thursday, November 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the History Center, located at 12 Bridgewater Avenue, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729. Lights can be purchased through the end of December to commemorate loved ones, both living and departed. White lights represent the memory of the departed, red and green lights honor the living, and gold lights pay tribute to military service members.
To participate, download the Legacy Lights brochure from the History Center's website or pick one up in person. Complete the form and mail it with a check payable to the Chippewa Area History Center. For more information, call (715) 723-4399 or email info@cahcwi.org.
In addition to the lighting ceremony, the History Center will host a Holiday Vendor Fair on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This event offers a wonderful opportunity to shop local vendors and enjoy free admission to the museum.
Join the Chippewa Falls community in celebrating the holiday season and honoring loved ones through the enduring tradition of Legacy Lights. |
